ANNOUNCEMENTS
Holiday Concerts in the Courthouse begin Tuesday, December 1st and go through Friday, December 18th.
This is the 12th year of this wonderful holiday tradition at the Courthouse. If you have never attended one of these concerts, you are missing one of the treats of the year!
Concerts start every weekday at 12:15 p.m. on the steps of the Courthouse Atrium, and we now have 25 school choruses scheduled to perform on the 14 days, so most days, you get two concerts back-to-back.
We sponsor these concerts so that our school children have a place and time to show off their talents and their hard work. Performing in public helps build self-esteem and promotes school pride.
Seating is available in the Atrium, and we also broadcast the concerts live on dctv23 with simulcast on the County web site. We also tape the concerts and replay them in order of performance on the weekends through New Year’s.
It is the students’ and our gift to the community during this holiday season.
The 2002 SPLOST pennies were used to build the new Fire Training Complex, and we invite you to see and tour it during the Open House from 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 3rd.
Our newest class of firefighters will also graduate from rookie school that night, and you will want to be on hand to meet and greet these wonderful men and women who are joining the ranks of Douglas County’s finest!
The new Fire Training Complex is located on Wortham Road off Cedar Mountain Road just west of the Landfill, and consists of a four-story tower, a burn building, classroom, outside burn props, a confidence trailer, and other training facilities.
This new Complex allows our firefighters to now have in-house training that previously was only available to them by traveling to Forsyth, Georgia. Our Complex will also be available to other fire and emergency rescue departments because better training keeps all of us safer.
Please come join us Thursday night, December 3rd from 6 - 8 p.m.
Cobb and Douglas Public Health will host a H1N1 flu shot clinic on Saturday, December 5th, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Lithia Springs High School. Approximately 3,000 flu shots will be available to eligible persons ages 6 months - 49 years, and for persons with health problems over the age of 49. There is no cost for the flu shot.
Additional dosages are expected to be available later in December.
